Modern slavery and human trafficking arrest in Birmingham
14th March 2019
Officers from the Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority (GLAA) have arrested a 39-year-old Romanian man on suspicion of modern slavery and human trafficking offences.
GLAA investigators were supported by West Midlands Police in making the arrest at an address in the Handsworth area of Birmingham on the morning of Thursday 14 March.
The operation was organised after the GLAA received allegations of exploitation in the food processing sector.
GLAA Senior Investigating Officer Andy Davies said: “Modern slavery is hidden in every community and our work is crucial in disrupting people who believe that they can get away with exploiting people for their labour.”
Anyone who believes someone is being exploited should call the GLAA’s confidential hotline on 0800 4320804 or email intelligence@gla.gov.uk
