'Modern slavery victims' safe following London operation
20th June 2018
Two potential victims of modern slavery have been safeguarded following an operation in South London this morning (Wednesday 20 June).
The Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority (GLAA) led a multi-agency search of six addresses in Croydon following an allegation relating to the abuse of workers in the construction industry.
Officers spoke to 30 potential victims during the course of the operation. Two of those – Polish men aged 23 and 29 - have now entered the National Referral Mechanism, which means they’ll have access to specialist, ongoing support for up to 45 days.
No arrests have yet been made. The investigation continues.
