Labour exploitation arrests
21st March 2018
Two men in their forties have been arrested by investigators from the Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority (GLAA) in connection with the alleged exploitation of workers.
Warrants were executed at two homes in Birmingham and Wolverhampton early this morning (Wed 21 March) in an operation supported by West Midlands Police.
The two men, both aged 41 and Romanian nationals, are being held on suspicion of acting as an unlicensed Gangmaster contrary to section 12 of the Gangmasters Licensing Act.
The GLAA acted following concerns from a West Midlands recruitment agency that workers were being controlled and exploited. The two men are being held at a police station where they will be questioned later today.
