Joint webinar to focus on protecting workers’ rights in care sector
22nd March 2023
A panel from HM Revenue and Customs’ National Minimum Wage team will join the Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority (GLAA) and Employment Agency Standards Inspectorate (EAS) next week to explain the common issues found in the care sector and how employers can protect workers’ rights.
The webinar takes place on Tuesday March 28 from 2pm and is expected to last around 90 minutes.
You can register for the event here.
GLAA Head of Prevention and Partnerships Frank Hanson said: “The care sector is one of our top strategic priorities when it comes to identifying and stamping out forced or compulsory labour.
“We currently have a number of live investigations in the sector and have identified several issues including potential abuse of student visas and workers being housed in unsuitable accommodation after working long hours for little pay.
“The range of suspected offences we have come across is so varied that it can only be effectively tackled by working closely with a number of different agencies. This event with our fellow labour market enforcement bodies is important in highlighting the problems that we have encountered and outlining the practical steps that employers can take to protect their workers from exploitation.”
